The Grade 2 Shuvee Stakes headlines Friday’s card at Saratoga, serving as Race 8 with a $250,000 purse for fillies and mares going 1 1/8 miles on the main track.
Below is a breakdown of the field and key handicapping angles.
Pace Scenario
Snowyte appears to be the most likely pacesetter from the rail, with Scottish Lassie also expected to race prominently.
Bless the Broken and Fully Subscribed should enjoy stalking trips just behind the leaders, and Eunomia is capable of working out a forwardly placed trip if she gets out of the gate in good order. The remaining runners will likely settle farther back and hope for a contested pace.
Horse-by-Horse Analysis
1. Snowyte
Snowyte has been relatively consistent throughout her career, finishing first or second in seven of her nine starts. She exits a runner-up finish in the Top Flight Stakes after tracking the pace throughout and proving clearly second best behind Scalable, and show finisher Lost Horizon was a next-out stakes winner.
She posted a sharp bullet workout at Saratoga leading into this race and projects as one of the primary pace factors from the rail. While she’ll need to improve on her most recent speed figure, she’s capable of taking this field a long way if left alone on the front end.
2. Aeolian
The lightly raced Chad Brown trainee has plenty of upside after just four career starts, but this represents a significant class test.
After being elevated to victory in an optional-claiming race last time, she’ll stretch out to her longest distance while facing graded stakes company for the first time. Her recent speed figures suggest she still has work to do before matching this field.
3. Fully Subscribed
Fully Subscribed enters as one of the most dependable runners in the field. She has finished in the top three in all seven career starts and already owns two graded stakes victories at this 1 1/8-mile distance.
Her runner-up effort in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps came against an exceptional winner in Nitrogen, who earned a huge speed figure and is expected to tackle the Grade 1 Whitney against males next. Facing a less imposing group here, Fully Subscribed finds an ideal opportunity to return to the winner’s circle.
She owns tactical speed, consistently solid speed figures, and should enjoy an excellent stalking trip from post three.
4. Scottish Lassie
Scottish Lassie possesses arguably the highest ceiling in the field.
She captured last year’s Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks in dominant fashion after adding a facile maiden victory in the Grade 1 Frizette in 2024. Her seasonal debut this year was equally impressive, as she cruised to an eight-length victory at Saratoga.
The concern is consistency. Each of her previous breakout performances has been followed by a regression in her next start. If she finally strings together consecutive top efforts, she’s capable of winning this race. However, that uncertainty keeps her just outside the top selections.
5. Bless the Broken
Since joining the Brad Cox barn, Bless the Broken has taken her game to another level.
She has finished second, third, and second in three consecutive Grade 1 races and continues to produce reliable speed figures. Her tactical style should allow Irad Ortiz, Jr. to secure a stalking position behind the early leaders.
Few horses in this field are as trustworthy, making her a major contender once again.
6. Eunomia
Eunomia enters off a disappointing sixth-place finish after stumbling at the break in the Ruffian Stakes.
Prior to that effort, however, she had been consistent and posted numbers that fit well against this group. If she rebounds to her spring form, she has enough ability to contend. The question is whether she’ll recover immediately from her most recent setback.
7. Valtellina
The New York-bred filly has been competitive against state-bred company, including a solid runner-up finish in the Critical Eye Stakes at Saratoga in June.
The challenge is proving she belongs against open graded stakes competition.
