My latest horse racing article and video features analysis of the $125,000 Rampart Stakes using Today’s Racing Digest past performances.
Rampart field: 1 – Dazzling Move (5-1), 2 – Luvumorgan (20-1), 3 – Gullfaxi (50-1), 4 – Grand Job (7-2), 5 – Riding Pretty (30-1), 6 – Claret Beret (9-2), 7 – One Magic Philly (2-1), 8 – Necessity (4-1), 9 – Sterling Silver (6-1).
The Rampart is the 9th race at Gulfstream Park on Friday, Dec. 26 with a scheduled post time of 4:18 PM ET. This event is for fillies and mares traveling one mile around one turn on the main track.
Rampart Analysis
Dazzling Move is a 2-time local winner with a trio of victories at one mile. She cuts back a furlong and her numbers dropped off in her last pair.
Luvumorgan ran fast enough to compete with these when she captured the Game Face in May. Her other four numbers leave something to be desired and this is her first start at a mile.
Gullfaxi shows one victory on the page and that score was a local $12.5k/2L romp in January. She is not fast enough to compete with this group and she is outclassed as well.
Grand Job dueled through above par fractions and folded at six panels on Nov. 30 and that was her first start in eight months. She was in good form prior to her last and Bill Mott’s early-pressing filly is 2-for-2 at one mile. She is fast enough to win this on her best day.
Riding Pretty exits back-to-back wins vs. New Jersey-bred foes at Monmouth Park. She is 0-for-5 with zero top three finishes at Gulfstream Park.
Claret Beret moved to the Saffie Joseph, Jr. barn and aired by 19 lengths at this course and distance in May, and she was clearly second best behind Churchill Downs specialist Vahva in the Grade 2 Chicago in June. She threw in below par efforts in the Ballerina (G1) and Princess Rooney (G3) in her last pair. She needs to rediscover her best form to compete with these.
One Magic Philly moved to the Brendan Walsh barn and looked good defeating a next-out winner as the favorite on Oct. 11, and she chased the pace and was second best behind sharp winner Shred the Gnar in the Grade 3 Chilukki on Nov. 15. Tyler Gaffalione got to know her last time and she owns quality numbers and projects a tactical trip while out in the clear.
Necessity cut back to a one-turn mile and easily won an entry level allowance event under the Twin Spires on Nov. 28. The sophomore filly reunites with Irad Ortiz, Jr.
Sterling Silver is a consistent New York-bred mare and Anthony Margotta, Jr. is her new trainer. Friday’s rider Javier Castellano guided her to a state bred stakes win at this distance in the mud in April.
