How to Use the Complete Digest at Santa Anita

By Jarrod Horak

In my latest how to use the Digest video, I discuss how to use Today’s Racing Digest past performance data to make money at the racetrack. I use the Complete Digest at Santa Anita Park on Sunday, January 25, 2026 as examples.

I concentrate on the Track Profile, Running Styles, Speed and Pace Forecasts, Race Competition Levels, and Final Time Ratings, and all of those statistics can be found in the Race Header section in the Complete Digest.

Track Profile: The Digest Race Sheet’s Track Profile, tells you which running styles have been winning at today’s race distance and surface.  You’ll get the number of races included in the study and percentage of times each running style has won.  (F=frontrunner, P=pressers, M=midpackers, R=late runners).

Running Styles (PER): Our team of expert handicappers evaluates each horse’s expected performance in today’s race and designates the type of running style they expect each horse to run in the PER column in the Race Sheet Header. (F=frontrunner, P=pressers, M=midpackers, R=late runners)

Speed and Pace Forecasts: The Today’s Racing Digest handicappers go through each horses past performances and project out the Fire Number, CPR, Fast Fig, and Final Time Rating they believe each horse will earn in today’s race.

Race Levels: The number that relates to today’s race conditions and should be compared with the other class based ratings in the race sheets to determine a horse’s ability to compete in today’s race class level.  The higher the number the more difficult the race (five points equals one class level).

Final Time Ratings: This figure measures a horse’s final time against our track pars, with the daily track variant factored in so you can easily compare it with other horses and past performances.
