Where’s My Ring: Ran Well But Lost By a Lip

Trainer Val Brinkerhoff has to feel a bit snake bitten as here he is again on the Horses to Watch list off another second. You’ve heard the phrase before, he ran too good to lose, well it definitely applies to this three year old filly, who made her debut in race three on Sunday. Off at 35/1 in a field of well bred juvenile fillies, she was bumped around the start and then settled in mid pack down the back side about 7 lengths off the pace. The first fraction was quick, 21.55, and she started to advance at the 3/8 pole under Victor Espinoza. She stayed on the fence at the ¼ pole, then found a seam at the top of the lane and grabbed the lead. She even started to open up on the field, but she didn’t see the horse on the outside of the track coming home like a freight train. At the wire it still looked like she won the race but the photo said otherwise, as she lost the nose bob by a lip. She really did run too good to lose. This daughter of the good sire Twirling Candy is a soon winner.
