War At Sea: Good Prep Race Getting Ready For the Mile At Del Mar

Four year old colt for Ron Ellis, who had not been to the post in nearly a year, tried the 3rd allowance condition on Friday at 5/8 on the turf for older runners. Off at 17/1 in a field of 8 “salty” runners, he was last down the back side, and quickly fell 10 lengths off the pace. Victor Espinoza put him to a drive at the 3/8 pole and he quickly circled horses though still well back at the top of the lane. Five wide coming into the stretch, he finished in a rush way out in the middle of the course and was only beaten one length at the wire while finishing fifth. This was strictly a prep, as one mile is his best distance and he should get that opportunity later in the meet. This son of War Front is very consistent and the savvy Ellis should find a spot for him, maybe the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile on Sept. 2nd.
