Super Shine (ARG): If Given Time To Recover She Will be a Force To Reckon with In Graded Stakes

One of the more impressive performances of the week was this five year old mare in the Grade 2 Santa Maria stakes on Sunday. This five year old trained by Phil D’Amato had not been to the post since May of 2023 and this was her first race outside of Argentina. She broke running under 53 year old Frankie Dettori in this mile and a sixteenth run on the main track and vied for the lead with two others into the clubhouse turn. She opened up a length on the 8 horse field at the half mile pole through quick fractions of 22.66 and 46.64 for the half. She put away the other speed at the ¼ pole but the stretch runners were now in full flight and she battled gamely down the lane from the inside and never gave an inch until the shadow of the wire. She lost by a head in the final jump but she did all of the dirty work the entire race and ran too good to lose. She won 4 of 10 down in Argentina and only missed the board once, and if D’Amato gives her time to recover from this race, and he probably will, she will be a force to reckon with on this circuit in graded stakes the rest of the year.
