Sonoran: Responsive Son of Curlin is Bred to Go Long

Two year old colt for Bob Baffert made his debut on Monday in a maiden special weight event at ¾ on the main. Off at 5/1 in an 8 horse field, he broke running under Johnny V. and then was taken back a bit and sat 3 lengths off the leaders down the back side. The jock asked him for run at the ¼ pole and he quickly assumed the lead after the leaders went a quick 21.68 for the opening quarter. He opened up a length quickly at the 1/8 pole, but another Baffert runner had him in his sights and glided on by Sonoran late. He finished second but was three and a half clear of the third horse. This son of Curlin is bred to go long and he’s a soon winner.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Sonoran was cabable of.  We expected that if Sonoran gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Sonoran performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Sonoran last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Sonoran next start.  If Sonoran appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Sonoran will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
