Santarena: Trouble At Start For This Strong Runner

Three year old colt for Mark Glatt made his debut on Saturday in a maiden special weight event for sophomores at six and a half on the main. Off at 3/1 and bet down from 6/1 M/L in a field of 10, he was well meant today but was knocked completely off stride at the start by his next door neighbor and was away dead last and was quickly 12 lengths back of the leaders. Kimura took him to the rail and he gradually moved up some but was never in the race. He rallied for fourth in the lane to show that he can run some, but the start just killed any chances he had to win, through no fault of his own. He worked solidly for his debut and this son of Omaha Beach cost $425K in a yearling sale so he is cut out to be a nice horse.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Santarena was cabable of.  We expected that if Santarena gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Santarena performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Santarena last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Santarena next start.  If Santarena appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Santarena will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
