Mystic Flyer: Superb Effort and His 2nd In a Row Coming Off Turf

Four year old gelding for Mike McCarthy tried a protected 32,000 Starter Allowance race on Friday for older runners at a mile on the main track. Off at 16/1 in a field of 7, he broke running under Tyler Baze and contested the early lead into the clubhouse turn. Baze got him to relax nicely down the back side and kept him under a snug hold. He stuck his head in front turning for home but the heavy odds on favorite was now under way on his outside. He battled gamely to the 1/16 pole before yielding and was beaten two at the wire. It was another three back to the third horse and it was a superb effort and his 2nd in a row since they took him off the turf. The barn has lots of options including a non winners of three claiming or even a Cal bred allowance. He is very sharp right now and if properly placed, a soon winner.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Mystic Flyer was cabable of.  We expected that if Mystic Flyer gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Mystic Flyer performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Mystic Flyer last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Mystic Flyer next start.  If Mystic Flyer appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Mystic Flyer will dominate the race.
