Mixto: Soon Winner If O’Neil Places Him Properly

Three year old colt for Doug O’Neill, who was just coming off a maiden win and was all out to do that, tried the Grade 2 San Antonio on opening day at a mile and a sixteenth on the main. Off at 9/1 and the longest price in the field of five, he broke running under Fresu and was third down the back side just two lengths off the pace. Fresu put him to a ride at the 3/8 pole and though it didn’t look like he was responding, he finally kicked it in at the 1/8 pole and finished strong to get second beaten two at the wire. It was a strong performance against a very good field and this one still has the first allowance condition available. He’s a soon winner if O’Neill places him properly, which is always a big IF with this barn.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Mixto was cabable of.  We expected that if Mixto gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Mixto performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Mixto last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Mixto next start.  If Mixto appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Mixto will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
