Guy Named Joe: Rallied Well Late But Came Up a Head Short Against Perfect Trip Favorite

Three year old colt for Doug O’Neill tried the Pasadena stakes on Saturday in a non graded stakes at a mile on the lawn for sophomores. Off at 3/1 in a field of just four due to a late scratch, he sat off the lead down the back side in third, about 4 lengths back of the leaders. The fractions were moderate and J.J. kept him on the fence most of the race, found a seam on the inside, and rallied well late, but just came up a head short at the wire to the favorite who had the perfect trip. He added blinkers today which helped him stay closer to the pace, yet still had a good kick late. He still has the 1st condition allowance available as he just has his maiden win, but this colt is very steady, as he has hit the board in 6 of 7 starts and always finishes strong. He’s a soon winner for a barn that’s been hot lately.
