Fried Asparagus: Geared Down Bt Still Won By a Dozen

Five year old mare for Steve Knapp, who had been facing Cal bred allowance runners, dropped in for a tag of $16K in the opener on Saturday, which also was a non winners of two, and just blitzed the field. Coming out of the 8 hole in an 8 horse field, on a track still playing well in favor of the outside lanes, she broke well under stable rider Tiago Pereira, and then was taken back four off the pace. Without being asked, she went after the leaders at the 3/8 pole in this five and a half furlong sprint, cruised up to the leaders on her own, went right on by in the blink of an eye, and had five on the field at the 1/8 pole. She was geared down the final sixteenth and still won by a dozen at the wire. She was no secret at the claim box with multiple trainers dropping the slip, with Nor Cal trainer Ruby Thomas winning the shake. Off this race, she can beat open claimers for $25K with the new connections.
