Eligio: Good Enough To Win With Some Luck

Hard luck two year old colt for Phil Oviedo ran too good to lose in Friday’s opener, a sprint on the main at five and a half for maiden claimers with a tag of $100K. Off as the 2/1 second choice in a field of 7, he broke running under Rickey Gonzalez and vied for the lead from the inside through a decent first fraction of 22.40. He never got a breather, as an outside competitor was laying on him all the way. He put him away at the top of the lane, opened up two at the 1/8 pole, then got nailed very late to lose by ¾ at the wire. He lost his debut by a nose over at Los Al. He’s good enough to get his diploma with just a little bit of luck. The veteran Oviedo can train and he will find a winning spot for this son of Congrats.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Eligio was cabable of.  We expected that if Eligio gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Eligio performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Eligio last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Eligio next start.  If Eligio appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Eligio will dominate the race.
