Kerry Gold: Rough Trip Settling For 2nd But Good Enough To Win Here

Five year old gelding for Peter Miller had a pretty rough trip in this Cal bred allowance race for the 1st condition Sunday at a mile on the turf. Off at 2/1 in a field of 9 under J.J., he broke OK and sat third on the rail into the clubhouse turn, but he had to check sharply when another horse came over on him just before the turn. J.J. kept him on the fence down the back side, stayed on the rail turning for home, but no seam developed on the inside, so he had to sit and wait for room. He got out at the 1/16 pole and finished strong, but he couldn’t see a horse closing way on the outside, so he had to settle for second beaten a neck at the wire. He is certainly good enough to win at this level, in fact he was entered for the optional tag of $20K and trainer Dan Azcarate red tagged the gelding for a start at Del Mar. If J.J. rides him back, go to the windows.
