Breezy Blue: Bumping Cost Her a Position In Inquiry After Strong Debut

Three year old filly for Adam Kitchingman made her debut in Saturday’s finale, a 5/8 turf sprint for Cal bred soph fillies. Off at 9/1 in a field of 11, she was bumped off stride at the start, then settled in fifth early about 4 back of the leaders. She stayed in that position turning for home while looking for a seam to break through, and when one finally came, she was knocked off stride by a horse lugging in and lost her momentum. She still rallied for third but lost all chance of winning. The inquiry sign went up and the stews took a long look at it and made no change, which in my opinion was the incorrect call. She should have been moved up to second because the bumping did cost her a position in the race. Nonetheless, it was a strong debut and the trainer feels she will be better on the main track based on her breeding. Turf or dirt, she’s a soon winner for an underrated barn and this one will still have wagering value.
