Coach Prime: Prat May Have a 2024 Derby Horse Here

Two year old colt for Bob Baffert made his 2nd career start but 1st on the main track Friday in a one mile maiden special weight. Off as the wagering choice at 7/5 in a field of 10 under Prat, he broke OK from the 9 hole and was fifth into the clubhouse turn and about five back of the leaders down the back side. Prat moved him to the fence at the 1/4 pole and was within two lengths of the leaders, found a seam at the top of the lane, and the “Coach” went through the hole without being asked, then kicked clear at the 1/8 pole winning by 8 while being geared down. Prat hardly asked him for any run the entire race. The fractions were quick early but this performance was visually impressive. I know it’s early, but if Baffert can keep this one in one piece, Prat may have a Derby horse for 2024. Up the ladder.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Coach Prime was cabable of.  We expected that if Coach Prime gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Coach Prime performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Coach Prime last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Coach Prime next start.  If Coach Prime appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Coach Prime will dominate the race.
