North East Star (IRE): Rough Trip May Be Overlooked in Next Start

Three year old filly for Phil D’Amato made start #3 in Friday’s third, a mile on the turf for fillies and mares 3 and up maiden special weights. Off as the even money choice in a field of 12, she had a very rough trip under Rispoli and was off the board completely. She hopped at the start to be away poorly, then settled in 7th down the back side but just 7 off the pace. Umberto asked her for run at the 3/8 pole, but then was squeezed in tight just after that, took up entering the lane with nowhere to go, checked again at the 1/8 pole, and then the jock just wrapped up on her and that was that. She was beaten five at the wire while finishing sixth. This Irish bred has talent and D’Amato has always done well with this kind. She just needs a clean trip to pose for pictures.
