Bailey’s Budget: hesitated at start and coud be live next time around

Three year old gelding for Shelbe Ruis made his debut on Saturday at five and a half on the main for maiden Cal breds, 3,4, and 5 years old. Off at 9/2 in a field of 6, he hesitated at the start, hopped slightly, and was away last. Gutierrez then rushed him up to reach contention and he was only two back at the 3/8 pole. He kept him on the fence turning into the lane and he tried gamely, folding late to be beaten three at the wire. The race should do him a lot of good and with a better start he would have been right there. Shelbe trains for her father who bred and owns this son of War Envoy and he could be very “live” in start #2. Tab and follow.
