Manorelli: Took Worst of Speed Duel and Beat by 1 at Wire

Three year old filly for Luis Mendez ran her heart out in the Grade 3 Las Flores on Saturday at ¾ on the main. Off at 25/1 under Maldonado, she broke running and set quick splits of 21.97 and 44.26 for the half, all the while being down on the inside and taking the worst of a speed duel. She gamely fought off the other speed and won the battle but lost the war, when the second choice in the wagering caught her late getting beat by one at the wire. She still has the first allowance condition available and she broke her maiden by 11 on this track. She’s a soon winner if properly placed in the allowance ranks.
