Del Mar Futurity 2024 Analysis & Wagers

The Grade 1, $300,000 Del Mar Futurity will be run at Del Mar on Sunday, September 8, 2024. The seven juvenile entrants will travel seven furlongs on the main track and Getaway Car is the 6-5 morning line favorite. The Del Mar Futurity goes as the tenth race with a scheduled post time of 9:02 p.m. EDT.

De Mar Futurity Analysis

Getaway Car broke on top and cruised to easy wins in both local dirt sprints as the favorite including the Grade 3 Best Pal. Bob Baffert’s $700k Curlin colt should be all over the pace from the inside post. His winning rider Juan Hernandez has been on a roll with this barn recently, and he sports two local works since his last start.

Gaming looked good winning his local debut at 6 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 11. Bob Baffert’s $250k Game Winner colt gets the services of Flavien Prat and he would not have to run much faster to win this.

R Heisman scratched out of a state bred stakes race on Friday and will go in this tougher spot. He was part of the exacta in all four starts and needs to run faster to threaten the top contenders in this race.

Brother Tony adds blinkers in his second career start for Peter Miller. He ran on for the show in his Del Mar debut on Aug. 11 and Gaming and Rank finished in front of him that day.

Rank ran into Getaway Car in his bow and rallied for the place behind Gaming last time. Doug O’Neill’s maiden is getting faster and will try to get involved from off the pace under Antonio Fresu.

McKinzie Street was strong on the front end in his local debut on July 28. He won that race by 3 1/2 lengths and should impact the pace once again.

Citizen Bull is the third and final Bob Baffert runner in this race. He pressed outside and wore down Smash It to win his Del Mar debut at 5 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 17. He figures to enjoy the added ground of this race and projects an outside stalking trip under Mike Smith.
