Bryan Station Analysis
#1 Neat (8-1) rallied for the show from post 10 in the Gun Runner at Kentucky Downs last time. He captured the Texas Turf Mile, local Transylvania (G3), Manila (G3), and Hall of Fame (G2), and three of those stakes wins were at one mile. He can stalk or close and figures to save all the ground from the inside post under his winning rider Junior Alvarado.
#11 Trikari (2-1) is back with 3-year-olds after shipping to California and finishing an even fourth vs. older foes in the City of Hope Mile (G2) Sept. 28. Graham Motion had hoped to use the City of Hope Mile as a springboard to the BC Mile (G1), and this is the backup plan. He beat sophomores in the Rushaway, American Turf (G2), Belmont Derby (G1), and Secretariat (G2), and was a close third in the Penn Mile (G3). He can press or stalk and his new rider Manny Franco has been clicking with Motion recently.
#3 Herchee (12-1) stalked and scored in his first two turf routes, and he had a bit of an uncomfortable stalking trip when splitting Brilliant Berti and Neat in the Gun Runner Sept. 8. This is his first start as a gelding and Helen Pitts has good stats with this type of short layoff runner. He is lightly raced and still has upside.
#6 Brilliant Berti (7-2) won three straight turf routes earlier this year including the listed American Derby. He rallied for the place as the beaten favorite behind Trikari in the Secretariat (G2), and he bounced back with a stakes win as the chalk in the Gun Runner at Kentucky Downs Sept. 8. Brian Hernandez Jr. stays put and he has booted this one home three times.
#7 Lagynos (15-1) might be able to hit the board at a price. He was a close third at 31-1 in the Transylvania (G3) and third again at 36-1 in the American Turf (G2). He was second in the Audubon at 6-1 and he missed by a neck at 8-1 odds in the Hall of Fame (G2). Last time in the Nashville Derby (G3) at Kentucky Downs, he stalked wide from post 10 and came up empty in the stretch in that 1 3/16 miles turf affair. This is a better distance and he can be used underneath.
#12 Twirling Point (20-1) reconnects with Frankie Dettori and he fired all three times under this rider. Trikari beat him by a half-length in the Rushaway (all-weather route), and he won the Jersey Derby by a nose at this distance on turf.Â
