The road to Kentucky Derby 2024 continues at Turfway Park on Saturday, March 23, and I have included Jeff Ruby Steaks 2024 picks below. The Grade 3 event for 3-year-olds has a $700,000 purse and the full field of entrants will be journeying 1 1/8 miles on the all-weather track. The Jeff Ruby Steaks is the 12th race on March 23 and the top five finishers will earn Kentucky Derby points (100-50-25-15-10).Â
Jeff Ruby Steaks 2024 Picks & Final Time Ratings
Lucky Jeremy stalked and scored as the favorite in the Riley Allison Derby at one mile on Jan. 19, and dueled and lost the place late in a clear show finish in Sunland Park Derby (G3) on Feb. 18. This is his third start after a layoff and third route attempt, and he might get brave if able to shake loose early.Â
Woodcourt won a local optional-claiming route late last year, and exits an okay fourth in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn. He reconnects with his winning rider Luan Machado, and a stalking trip is expected.Â
Otello overcame less than ideal trips in his first two flat mile wins including the Mucho Macho Man Stakes. He had no chance in a slow early/fast late renewal of the Grade 3 Holy Bull on Feb. 3, and runner-up Domestic Product returned to take the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) on March 9.
Seize the Grey returned a faster animal in a dirt route win at Oaklawn on Feb. 24. The $300k Arrogate colt should work out a decent stalking trip and is interesting if he improved again and handles the footing.
Endlessly is 4-for-5 overall. He won the Del Mar Juvenile Turf (G3) and Zuma Beach (G3) on turf last year, and exits an all-weather stakes victory in the El Camino Real Derby. The last win qualified him for the Preakness, and a top-two finish in this race would give him enough points to run in the Kentucky Derby.Â
The Jeff Ruby Steaks field also includes Freedom Principle, Dancing Groom, Noted, Agate Road, Northern Flame, Baytown Chatterbox, and West Saratoga. Circle P and Triple Espresso are the two also-eligibles.
