Twist (FR): Seems To Be Best at 9F on the Sod

ix year old gelding for John Sadler made his U.S. debut in Sunday’s 7th, a second condition allowance race at a flat mile on the turf. Off at 4/1 in a field of 8, he was bumped from the inside at the break to be away slowly, then taken directly to the rail by Fresu. He laid 4th down the back side about four off the pace and was kept on the fence until a seam opened up just past the ¼ pole. But he got floated four wide at the top of the stretch while the winner got through on the inside. Twist put in a good run down the lane to get second but the favorite got the jump on him. He lost by a length and a half in a good effort. He seems to be best at 9 furlongs on the sod and look for Sadler to find a good spot for this six year old, who has won five of 15 starts along with five seconds. Looks like a good private purchase for Sadler’s top client, the Hronis brothers.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Twist (FR) was cabable of.  We expected that if Twist (FR) gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Twist (FR) performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Twist (FR) last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Twist (FR) next start.  If Twist (FR) appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Twist (FR) will dominate the race.
