Four year old gelding for Adam Kitchingman tried the 1st allowance condition for “open” runners on Sunday and gave a good account of himself at this mile and a sixteenth try on the main. Off at 9/1 in a field of 7, he broke running under Giovanni Franco and set a moderate pace. He had one length on the field coming out of the clubhouse turn and that remained that way up the back side with fractions of 23.91 and 48.08 for the half. The odds on favorite came to him at the ¼ pole and Tranche dug in gamely and fought him the length of the stretch, not giving up until 1/16 pole. He lost by a length and a quarter at the wire, but it was a full five lengths back to the third horse. He has been stuck on this level for 7 straight races now, but this is the 1st time they tried him long on the dirt. There will be days when this track favors early speed and if he gets a little help from a bias standpoint, his natural speed and his gameness will get him a victory at this level. This son of Collected is a trier.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Tranche was cabable of. We expected that if Tranche gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Tranche performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Tranche last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Tranche next start. If Tranche appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Tranche will dominate the race.
