Tony Ann: Caught Late and Just Missed at Wire, Watch In Next Start

Five year old mare for Phil D’Amato, coming off an 8 month layoff, ran huge in the Daisycutter stakes at 5/8 on the lawn Friday evening. Off at 8/1 in a field of 9, she broke OK and sat fifth down the back side, some five lengths off the pace. Desormeaux guided her to the inside at the top of the lane, gained the lead inside the 1/16 pole, then got caught very late by her classy stable mate to just miss at the wire. She can go short or long on the turf and this race sets her up well for stretching out before the end of this meet.
