Tom Horn: Won By 3 At Wire , Next Is 3rd Off Layoff Which Can Be His Best

Four year old colt for Steve Miyadi made his 2nd start off an 8 month layoff on Sunday, in a 1st allowance condition sprint for Cal breds at ¾ on the main, 3 and up. Off at 3/1 in a field of six, he broke OK under Frey and sat 4th down the back side just three off the leaders. He made his bid for the lead at the ¼ pole, assumed the lead three wide into the stretch, and widened on his competition from there to win by three at the wire. Prior to this win on the dirt, his two previous wins were both at Del Mar in those 5/8 sprints on the turf, so his versatility in a major asset with Del Mar opening on July 20. His next start will be his third off the layoff, often a horse’s best performance, and though he may have to face open company, he’s going well enough right now to handle that assignment.
