Tapalo: Strolled Home to Win By 7 Over Heavy 2 to 5 Chalk

Three year old ridgling for John Sadler tried the 7 furlong Laz Barerra stakes on Sunday at 7 furlongs on the main. Off at 7/2 in a field of just 4 runners, he quickly took the lead under Hector Berrios and had two on the field by the 5/8 pole. With solid fractions of 22.69 and 45.02 for the half, he had three on the field at the ¼ pole, then strolled on home to win by 7 over the heavy 2 to 5 chalk. They ran the 7 furlongs in a legit 1:21.86 and Tapalo was geared down the last 75 yards. He’s good up to a mile or a mile and a sixteenth and I look for Sadler to find another stakes opportunity for him in the near future. His speed is his biggest asset and he can carry it around two turns.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Tapalo was cabable of.  We expected that if Tapalo gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Tapalo performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Tapalo last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Tapalo next start.  If Tapalo appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Tapalo will dominate the race.
