Sugar Fish: Longshot Ran Away From Field To Win by 9

Three year old filly for Jeff Mullins made her stakes debut on Saturday in the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks at a mile and a sixteenth on the main. Off at 5/1 in a field of just 4 runners, she stumbled badly at the start, went to her knees, but Baze hung on and she was last into the clubhouse turn six back of the leaders. Baze saved ground keeping her on the fence, gradually inched up on her own, then made a brave move at the 3/8 pole to sneak through on the rail and quickly opened up three in an eyelash. She motored to run away from the field and won by nine as the longest shot in the race, and she had some nice runners behind her. Since Mullins received this filly she has 3 wins and a second by a head and has become a different animal. This was a very impressive effort especially based on her start. The sky’s the limit for this daughter of Accelerate who was a bargain Keeneland purchase for just $40K.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Sugar Fish was cabable of.  We expected that if Sugar Fish gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Sugar Fish performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Sugar Fish last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Sugar Fish next start.  If Sugar Fish appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Sugar Fish will dominate the race.
