Subsanador (ARG): Sitting On Victory at This Condition

Five year old full horse for John Sadler made his 2nd U.S. start in the Grade 1 Big Cap on Sunday and ran too good to lose. Off at 22/1 and the longest price on the board in this field of 7 on the main track at 10 furlongs, he was sent right to the lead under Berrios with a fairly quick half mile in 47.09, and considering the dullness of the surface and the distance, he was motoring right along. He opened up two on the back side, still had two at the 1/8 pole, and looked like a solid winner in deep stretch. But give credit to the winner, Newgate, as he dug in and wore down this 5 year old in the shadow of the wire, because Subsanador was not stopping. It was two and a half back to the 3rd horse, Reincarnate, and there were some nice horses left in the dust in this race. The runner up won 7 of 12 races down in Argentina, including a Group 1, so he can run some. He doesn’t have any allowance conditions available, so Sadler might have to take him on the road for his next start but he’s a soon winner, but is dirt only anywhere from a mile to a mile and a quarter.
