Stay Hot: May Have Finished 2nd If Not For Infraction

Two year old colt for Peter Eurton made his debut in Saturday’s opener, a six furlong dash on the main for maiden special weights. Off at 16/1 in a field of 7, he broke running under Antonio Fresu and sat 3rd down the back side just two off the leaders. He came out and looked for room at the top of the lane, then got bumped repeatedly by a Baffert runner from the outside. He lost momentum for a spell, but trudged on and finished third beaten two and a half at the wire. He wasn’t going to beat the odds on winner today, but may have finished second had it not been for the infraction. Eurton is only 4% with debut runners, but 16% with 2nd time starters. He’ll be much tighter next time to the post.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Stay Hot was cabable of.  We expected that if Stay Hot gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Stay Hot performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Stay Hot last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Stay Hot next start.  If Stay Hot appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Stay Hot will dominate the race.
