Two year old gelding for Todd Fincher made start #3 on Saturday in a maiden special weight at five and a half on the main. Off at 3/1 in a field of six “salty” runners, he challenged for the lead right from the get-go through solid fractions of 22.10 and 45.17 for the half. He ding donged with the favorite and the two of them opened up on the field at the 3/8 pole and it was a two horse race from then on. Smash It hung in gamely in the lane but the favorite prevailed in the final sixteenth and won by ¾ of a length. It was seven full lengths back to the third horse and there were some nice prospects left in the dust. This was Smash It’s third straight second place finish and Baffert has beaten him with strong runners now in all three. But he will be tough to deny next time out and should find one more start before the end of this meet. This Louisiana bred is a runner.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Smash It was cabable of. We expected that if Smash It gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Smash It performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Smash It last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Smash It next start. If Smash It appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Smash It will dominate the race.
