Shady Tiger: Gamely Battled Down Lane For 2nd But Should Improve

Two year old gelding for Phil D’Amato made his debut on Friday off 11 five furlong drills, in a maiden special weight affair at 5/8 on the sod for Cal breds. Off at 2/1 in a field of 8 and was a slight favorite, he broke well under J.J. and sat third down the back side just 2 lengths off the leader. J.J. put him to a drive at the top of the lane, but he couldn’t catch the wire to wire leader who broke like a rocket ship from the outside. He gamely battled down the lane and was beaten a length at the wire and it was three back to the third horse. All in all, a good debut for the son of Smiling Tiger, who was just gelded on 10/26. He’s a soon winner for the top turf barn on this circuit and should have no trouble with two turns.
