Seven Charms: Should Be Ready In 3rd Off Layoff

Six year old gelding for Mike McCarthy made start #2 off a 10 month layoff in Saturday’s finale, a 9 furlong test on the lawn for non winners of three who have started for a $50,000 tag or less. Off at 6/1 in an 11 horse field, his trip today was almost as bad as his last, as he had nowhere to run in the lane under Desormeaux. He was 4th down the back side four off the pace and Kent kept him on the rail for the stretch run. But he never could find a seam to break through and steadied while in tight the entire final furlong. Still, he was only beaten two at the wire and finished a decent third. His next start will be his 3rd off the layoff, often a horse’s best performance, and McCarthy should have him ready to roll. He is lightly raced for a six year old and his last victory was at Del Mar. Don’t be surprised if there is a change in riders. He has beaten better in the past but he is turf all the way.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Seven Charms was cabable of.  We expected that if Seven Charms gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Seven Charms performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Seven Charms last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Seven Charms next start.  If Seven Charms appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Seven Charms will dominate the race.
