Two year old gelding for Jorge Periban tried the turf for the 2nd time in his brief career in Sunday’s opener at 5/8 for the 1st allowance condition for Cal breds. Off at 7/1 in a field of 7, he was pretty much void of any early speed, was away last though breaking cleanly, and was five back down the back side. Herrera kept him on the fence and he stayed there looking for a seam at the top of the lane. He waited patiently until one opened and it did at the 1/16 pole, when he shot through it, but the wire came up too quickly. He finished 4th beaten a length and a quarter. It wasn’t really a bad trip, it was just that 5/8 is too short for this off spring of Om, who has been deadly with turf sprinters this past year. He will appreciate the longer sprint distances up at Arcadia and he can handle dirt as well, breaking his maiden by 13 at Los Alamitos. I think Periban keeps him on the grass and he’s a soon winner for a barn that does well with juveniles.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Sevak was cabable of. We expected that if Sevak gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Sevak performance figures. Use the performance figures earned in Sevak last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Sevak next start. If Sevak appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Sevak will dominate the race.
