Scipio: May Have Been Best With If Had a Clean Start

Two year old colt for Richie Baltas made his debut in Friday’s third, a 5/8 turf sprint for juvenile maiden special weights. Off at 5/2 in a field of 8, he completely missed the start and was quickly 7 back of the leaders and dead last. Rispoli got him to the outside and he started to run at the 3/8 pole, circled to the outside, then got fanned out 7 wide at the top of the lane. He finished with good courage out in the middle of the course and was beaten two at the wire while finishing third. He may have been best with a clean start. He had trained well coming into the race and if Rispoli rides him back in start #2, jump on board. He’s a soon winner for a strong turf barn.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Scipio was cabable of.  We expected that if Scipio gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Scipio performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Scipio last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Scipio next start.  If Scipio appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Scipio will dominate the race.
