Santarena: Third Consecutive 2nd In Another Winning Race

Hard luck colt for Mark Glatt got his third consecutive second on Monday when he ran another winning race, but ran into another Buzz Saw in Eagles Flight, a debuting half brother to the great Flightline. Off at 4/1 in this maiden special weight at ¾ on the main, Santarena broke ok and then was taken back off the pace and relaxed nicely in fifth just 4 lengths off the leaders. He made his move outside at the 3/8 pole, stuck his head in front at the ¼ pole, but then couldn’t hold off the late charge of the even money favorite. He was beaten two and a half at the wire and it was six back to the third horse. His previous two races, this son of Omaha Beach got beat with 90 Beyers by Parenting (Baffert) and Ball Don’t Lie (Glatt). He’s due to catch a weaker field and get his diploma, he is a runner.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Santarena was cabable of.  We expected that if Santarena gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Santarena performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Santarena last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Santarena next start.  If Santarena appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Santarena will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
