Safa: Soon Winner For Underrated Barn

Three year old filly for Gary Stute tried two turns for the 1st time in her 8 race career on Sunday in a Cal bred 1st allowance condition at a mile on the turf. Off at 7/2 in a field of 7, Safa lagged early and was five back coming out of the clubhouse turn. She started to rally on the outside at the ¼ pole, reached the leaders at the top of the stretch from the outside, and rallied gamely down the lane to get second, beaten a half by a horse who got through on the rail and had a picture perfect trip. This was Safa’s third trip on the turf and she has been beaten a head, a neck, and now a half length in those three races. She clearly likes the turf, can handle two turns, and is quite sharp right now for an underrated barn. She’s a soon winner as long as Stute keeps her on the grass and coming down the hill would be ideal for her style.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Safa was cabable of.  We expected that if Safa gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Safa performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Safa last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Safa next start.  If Safa appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Safa will dominate the race.
