Sabertooth: Broke Ok and Checked But Rallied and Closed Boldly Flying Late

Two year old colt for Tim Yakteen made his debut on Saturday in a maiden special weight event at a mile on the lawn. Off at 7/1 in a field of 10 runners, he broke OK out of the gate and was mid pack into the clubhouse turn. Raylu Gutierrez kept him on the fence down the back side where he remained mid pack six off the lead. He started to move at the 3/8 pole, then checked sharply when in tight, re-rallied again at the top of the lane, then closed boldly on the fence and was flying late to be beaten ¾ on the wire. It was another five big lengths back to the third horse. It was a big effort for a debut runner going two turns. This son of the good California sire Grazen is also a half to a Grade 1 stakes winning mare and should have no trouble breaking his maiden at this meet.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Sabertooth was cabable of.  We expected that if Sabertooth gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Sabertooth performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Sabertooth last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Sabertooth next start.  If Sabertooth appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Sabertooth will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
