Rizzleberry Rose: Strong Courageous Race and Blinkers Put Her In the Race

Two year old Cal bred filly for Steve Knapp made start #2 on Monday in a maiden special weight event at ¾ on the main for Cal breds. Off at 7/2 in a field of 8, she added blinkers from her debut and after breaking a step slow under Pereira, she rushed up from between horses to contend for the lead through an opening 1st quarter in 22.39. However, she was stuck down on the fence with another horse leaning on her from the outside and she never caught a breather the entire trip. She put away the outside speed at the top of the lane, dug in gamely when challenged by the favorite at the 1/8 pole, but couldn’t fight her off and lost by a length at the wire. It was a strong and courageous race for “Rose” and the blinkers put her in the race where she had a chance to win. She will get the diploma in her next start, either at Los Al or up at Arcadia where they kick off their fall meet on Sept. 27.
