Rich of Joy: Prefers Tur and Should Break Maiden At Santa Anita Where Speed Holds Better

Three year old filly for Victor Garcia was sent two turns for the first time in her five race career in Saturday’s finale, and she ran a bang up race at a mile on the turf for maiden claimers with a $50,000 price tag. Off at 9/1 in a full field of 12 runners, she broke running from the two hole under hot riding Antonio Fresu and stalked the pace into the clubhouse turn. She stayed on the rail down the back side, just three off the pace and in the 4th position. She went after the leader at the ¼ pole and got within one length of her at the top of the lane, but the 10/1 long shot still had another gear left in her and Rich of Joy could not get by. She was beaten one at the wire and it was another two and a half back to the third horse. This daughter of Cairo Prince added blinkers today and ran much better on the stretch out. She prefers turf and should be able to break her maiden up at Arcadia at this level, where speed will hold on better at that course. And she still offer some value.
