Reiquist: Dueled For Lead Through Quick Fractions To Win by 7

Three year old colt for Tim Yakteen, who had not been to the post since June of last year, made his 2nd career start on Monday in a maiden special weight at six and a half on the main, 3 and up. Off at 17/1 in a field of 6 and donning the blinkers, he came out running under Vasquez and dueled for the lead through quick fractions of 21.71 and 44.18 for the half. He put the other speed away at the top of the lane, started easing clear at the 1/8 pole, and won going away by 7 at the wire. There were some pretty good sophomores left in the dust in this field. He may have to face older runners now going for the 1st allowance condition, but he certainly seems up to the task. This was visually an impressive performance.
