Redline: This Son of Texas Red Can Win Going Long Or Short on Dirt or Turf

Four year old colt for Steve Knapp was in for a $40,000 tag on Saturday at a mile on the main track with 7 other older horses. Off at 7/2 under Tiago Pereira, he settled in third into the clubhouse turn, just 3 back of the leaders. He stayed there down the back side, put in a run at the top of the lane, and rallied gamely down the stretch but could not catch the Baffert favorite who got the jump on him. He was beaten one at the wire. This versatile son of Texas Red can run on turf or dirt and can go short or long, so Knapp has many options. He’s hit the board in 12 of 19 starts and runs his race each time, as long as he is not overly matched. Eddie Truman dropped the slip for him, so look for him to find the right spot before this meet is out, as long as he is in for a tag. He has already knocked out the first allowance condition.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Redline was cabable of.  We expected that if Redline gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Redline performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Redline last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Redline next start.  If Redline appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Redline will dominate the race.
