Rank: Strong Finish For 2nd by 3/4 on Track Favoring Speed All Day

Two year old colt for Doug O’Neill made start #4 on Monday in a maiden special weight at one mile on the main. Off at 4/1 in a field of 8, he broke OK from the 7 hole under Kyle Frey but got caught 5 wide into the clubhouse turn. He lost considerable ground and fell back to last coming out of that turn. Frey didn’t ask him for run until the 3/8 pole and he slowly got motoring and passed a few horses. Once he got him to the outside at the top of the lane, he finished strong for second and only lost by ¾ at the wire on a track that favored early speed all day. He lost at least 4 lengths on both turns today and he was the only horse finishing strong in this race vs. a strong speed bias. As long as O’Neill keeps him at this level, he’s a soon winner, probably down at Del Mar. He had him in a Grade 1 where he was 50/1 in his previous start and isn’t in that caliber just quite yet.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Rank was cabable of.  We expected that if Rank gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Rank performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Rank last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Rank next start.  If Rank appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Rank will dominate the race.

Helpful Tip:  So that it’s easy for you to compare a horse’s past performance, Today’s Racing Digest’s Performance Figures for upcoming races are based on how we expect the horse to perform in that race regardless of any changes in race conditions.  Learn More:
