Phosphorescence (FR): Kept on Rail And Bottled Up With No Where To Run But Good Enough To Win

Four year old gelding for Michael McCarthy tried a starter allowance race for non winners of three lifetime in the finale on Friday at a mile on the turf, 3 and up. Off at even money from a morning line of 3/1 with a ton of money coming in late, he broke well under J.J. and laid third down the back side just two off the leaders. J.J. kept him on the fence turning for home praying for the rail to open up or at least a seam to open and neither happened. From the 3/16 pole to the wire he was bottled up with nowhere to run, ended up fourth losing by three at the wire. This has happened quite often recently with Hernandez on the turf where those split second decisions have to be made whether to move out or stay inside and he has consistently been on the wrong side of the equation. This gelding is good enough to win this condition and McCarthy’s main man on the turf is Rispoli, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that change is made for his next start.
