Old Pal: Not the Quickest but Can Win at 2 Turns

Three year old colt for Mark Glatt made his debut on Saturday in the opener, a six and a half furlong dash on the green from out of the chute. Off as the 3/5 choice in a field of 8, he broke slowly under J.J. and was dead last for most of the race, trailing by as many as 9 down the back side. Still last at the top of the lane, the jock swung him to the outside going six wide, and he finished with good run in the middle of the course to get second, beaten three at the wire. I don’t think Old Pal has much speed to begin with, but with a better break, he’s a soon winner, and two turns will be no problem, as he galloped out strongly. Tab and follow.

Generally horses that are on the Horses To Watch list ran into unexpected trouble, bad luck, and/or didn’t run the race we believe Old Pal was cabable of.  We expected that if Old Pal gets a good trip in their next start than we should see an improvement in Old Pal performance figures.  Use the performance figures earned in Old Pal last race (listed above) and compare them to the field and pars of Old Pal next start.  If Old Pal appears to have earned higher performance figures in the last race when running into trouble  as compared to the rest of the field’s expected perfomance in the upcoming race than there is a good chance that Old Pal will dominate the race.
