Mc Vay: Huge Sweeping Move at 3/8 Pole to Go from 10 back to Lead at 1/4 Pole

Three year old colt for John Shirreffs finally got a chance to race where he belongs and he annihilated a good field of maiden special weights 3 and up at a flat mile on the main. Off as the 3/2 choice in a field of 9, he broke outward from the 9 hole, went six wide into and out of the clubhouse turn under Mike Smith, and was kept extremely wide down the back side. The first quarter was hot in 22.45 so Smith knew the speed would come back to him. He made a huge sweeping move at the 3/8 pole and within a furlong went from 10 back to the lead at the ¼ pole. He won by six geared down and wrapped up the final 50 yards. It was visually an impressive performance. Now if Shirreffs runs him where he belongs, in the 1st allowance condition, he will have no issues, just as long as he doesn’t get greedy and throw him to the wolves in a graded stakes, as he has done in the past. McVay does have a lot of talent but he should be allowed to run through his conditions.
