March of Time: Blew Past Leader With Plenty to Hold off Late Runner Winning by 3

Three year old colt for Bob Baffert, who had been off for one full year, made just his 2nd career start on Friday at 3/4 on the main in a maiden special weight event. Off as the 6/5 choice in a field of just five after two late scratches, he broke OK under J.J. but a Shirreffs debut runner was lights out from the gate and quickly opened up three down the back side on March of Time. The fractions were hot in 21.81 for the opening quarter and 44.55 for the half. But March of Time caught up to the leader by the ¼ pole, went right on by, and then had plenty to hold off a late runner to win by three. The time was a quick 1:09.03 for the six furlongs and these were maiden runners. Up the ladder for this son of Justify who happens to be owned by baseball all star players Alex Bregman of the Astros and the Dodgers Walker Buehler, along with Baffert’s wife Natalie.
