Malibu Rocks: Battled Gamely Down The Lane and Never Surrendereed Until the End

Three year old colt for Mike Puype made start #2 on Sunday and 1st around two turns in a maiden special weight event at a flat mile on the main for sophomores. Off at 5/1 in a field of six, he made the running from the get go under Rosario and set blazing splits of 22.65 and 46.75 for the half. In addition, he was hounded every step of the way by the winner who never gave him a breather at any point in the race. “Malibu” looked beaten in the stretch but he battled gamely down the lane and never surrendered until the very end. He was beaten a half at the wire and it was three back to the third horse. It was a very game effort for this son of Malibu Moon as he did all the heavy lifting in this race and just missed in getting the victory. He’s a soon winner for a barn that’s off to a good start in 2024.
