Ma Rae’s Girl: Took To Sod With Lots of Options Moving Forward

Three year old filly for Doug O’Neill tried the 2nd allowance condition on Sunday in the opener. Off at 18/1 in a field of six and the longest price on the board in this 5/8 turf sprint, she broke running under Fresu and laid 4th down the back side just 3 back of the leaders. The boy asked her for run at the 3/8 pole and she swept up on the outside of the leaders and was a real threat at the 1/8 pole, but the favorite still had a lot left in the tank and held her safe by one at the wire. This was the first time for the turf for this daughter of Mendelssohn in start #6 and she really took to the sod. She can go long or short, turf or dirt, so the O’Neill stable has lots of options moving forward.
