Upcoming Race: Santa Anita October 5, 2024 King’s Road: Beaten by Nice Colt But Four Back to 3rd Horse

Two year old ridgling for Bob Baffert made his debut on Saturday at a mile on the turf in a maiden special weight event. Off at 3/1 in a field of nine, he rushed right to the lead from the four hole and had the lead into the clubhouse turn. He stayed in front down the back side through a quick opening quarter but was pushed all the way to his outside by another speed horse. He put him away turning for home, battled on gamely down the lane when the favorite came to him at the 1/8 pole, then surrendered late in a fine effort. He was beaten three at the wire by a nice colt and it was four back to the third horse. It’s tough to win going long in your debut and he will be much tighter for start #2, probably up at Arcadia in the early part of October.
